Love it each time I've gone. Early morning is the best time to see the cats since they lay in the sun vs noon & later when they seek out the shade; plus not as many people are there so early. It's better to bring food & drinks as it's expensive to buy from the cafe's.
The animals all look well cared for and have excellent enclosures - it took us around 3 hours to explore the zoo completely and to ensure we sure all of the animals.
I made a special point of visiting this zoo specifically to see the panda’s and I’m so glad I did - what a wonderful zoo! The architecture is fantastic and each area is well designed and laid out, and styled to resemble particular parts of the world (Egypt, China etc)
The area surrounding the zoo is also a lovely space to take a nice relaxing walk in too, and there is an art gallery around 5 minutes walk away.
I'm willing to let smells go since there are, ya know, wild animals. The bathrooms can be a little messy, especially during busy seasons like Zoo Lights and summer time.
One of the treasures of Memphis and has to be one of the best in the country. A truly amazing zoo that is constantly updating and adding new attractions and animals. Every time we go we experience something new and different and we have been members since around 2001. Speaking of membership, it is a great deal and includes free parking. My kids always enjoy a visit to this zoo. Highlights for me are Teton Trek with the Grizzly Bears and Wolves and the Northwest Passage with the underwater viewing of the Polar Bears and Sea Lions. The somewhat new Zambezi River Hippo camp is an amazing design. If you have been, I highly recommend checking out this zoo.
I took my grandson for his first visit to the zoo. We had an amazing time! I was very impressed with the grounds. Everything was nice and clean. The restrooms were easy to find throughout the grounds. There were a lot of things for my toddler to do and see. The Memphis Zoo is a great place to spend the day!
We have a family membership and go 1-2 times a month. My oldest is only 2.5, so we prefer starting in the early mornings and leaving before lunchtime. The staff is always wonderful. Pleasant, willing to answer some questions, and I've never seen one not busy with some task.
Lost a star for: 1) The tram only runs March-October. Once we figured that out, we adjusted how often we go and who we take. Grandparents and little ones can't walk as far as mom and dad, so we consider $2/person a steal to be able to cover more ground. 2) I have a pet peeve about people bringing swimming gear to play in the nasty water. There are a few areas with fountains and ponds, all have no swimming signs. It's just a matter of time before someone is hurt, and I hope the staff becomes more strict about enforcing this rule.
