Lance Sanderson has filed a lawsuit stating that his school, the all male Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, went against anti-discrimination laws when he was told that he could not bring another boy to the dance as his date, despite other students being allowed to bring female partners from outside of the school.

Lance's case is still ongoing.

1953-1957 They did their best to make lemonade out of lemons. Still speak with Bro Arnold. Thank you....

Gay Teen Suing School That Refused To Let Him Bring A Date To Prom

'I just want to bring a date of my choice to homecoming like the rest of my friends and classmates. I'm not asking for special treatment. I'm just asking for respect and the chance to make my last homecoming a truly memorable experience.'

All T O T A L L Y written by me and O N L Y me.

I surprised anyone actually reviews a school on Google... but: Nearly all of my Uncles attended this school, my older brother did, my grandfather attended a La Salle school in Chicago (St. Josephs I think) and I'm in my third year. This school is excellent. I've only noticed "acceptance problems" or bullying once or twice during my entire time here. No one has ever given me trouble and anyone who is given trouble is often defended by a teacher, friend, or even a stranger in the school. As for the classes: They are what you make of them. The teachers have teaching differences that can be difficult to become accustomed to, but that can be dealt with if you (the student) works hard, studies, and makes an effort to learn. If one has trouble with something, he may speak with the teacher for help, receive peer tutoring, drop a class to a lower level or higher level (if the class is too easy), or ask a counselor for advice. As for reports of verbally abusive teachers: no. Some teachers are strict, teach well, and discipline problem-making students. These teachers are adults- duh. They ought to be expected to handle the class efficiently and to maintain order so that we can spend less time goofing and more time learning. If a student is causing trouble/being disrespectful, the teacher must keep control. The homework isn't overbearing if we spend time after school working instead of watching TV or going to friends houses. Even with sports/band and clubs. The school's doors open at 6 am. I get up at 5 (I live 15 minutes away) and I'm there at 6 sharp. That gives me at least 2 hours time to study, wrap up unfinished homework, and have a quiet school building that makes focusing much easier. Most complaints I hear are that courses are too difficult, the teachers don't teach (I've encountered a total of 1 teacher who doesn't teach, at all. as in, the course was a free honors credit and other than that worthless), too much homework, or that there's a horribly mean student body. Solution: make us students do work at home too, that'll improve everything. Homework: Focus Focus Focus. Student body: Learn to be less sensitive, find friends like yourself, be yourself, and realize that mean people are everywhere. This school has taught me to enjoy learning and has taught me responsibility. I also recommend joining the band and/or sports. Often, they will be your social connection and your shoulder to lean on.

The lawyers in the case, which cites breach of contract, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent training among it's violations, have said that that despite the school's private status it is in receipt of federal funding, and as such must abide by anti-discrimination laws and legislation.

Lance chose to skip the dance rather than attend without being able to bring a partner, but reports that the school still suspended him for a week for having requested permission to bring a same sex partner.

A gay teen from Tennessee is suing his former school after they refused to let him bring a date to his homecoming prom.

Speaking out on the incident Lance said, 'I've been out since my freshman year of high school, and I've been a great student as well as a photographer for most of my school's events. When I first started to float the idea of bringing a same sex date to homecoming I was told that my school doesn't discriminate by a school official.

Provides excellent college preparation. Well rounded education for young men and future leaders. Top notch facilities and faculty.

Best school recommended it

'Now my school is making daily announcements across the whole school saying that students can't bring same sex dates from other schools.

'But, when that school official left over the summer, I was met with harsh opposition by my school. One administrator told me that even though some people interpret Pope Francis's teachings on the issue as as meaning that they should support same sex couples, these people are 'not the authority to which Christian Brothers High School is accountable'.
